Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations

With India set to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, a granite cot on which
he slept during his visit here in 1892, has been handed over to a cultural forum, by the family which
played host to the great saint-philosopher.

The Parishad has stated that it was the beginning of the celebrations to commemorate the 150th Birth
anniversary of Swami Vivekanand which falls on 12th January 2013 and it has been planned to organize
several other programs / events in next two years to project Swami Vivekanand as an Icon and an epitome
of Strength and Courage for the Youth - Character building; Value education and Imbibing Indian cultural
values & traditions.

Swami Vivekananda needs no introduction. Swamiji was one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the
modern world, a great lover of humanity whose unconditional love extended to all people without any
distinctions of caste, class, creed, race, region or religion. Swami Vivekananda is also remembered
as a great patriot, the first cultural ambassador of India to the West, who raised the prestige of
India in the eyes of Western people and changed their views about India with the compelling force
to truth.

Swami Vivekananda was born in Kolkata on 12 January 1863.
