Red Bull launch new RB8 car for 2012
Formula One's defending drivers' and constructors' world champions Red Bull Racing took the
wraps off their new Renault-powered RB8 at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in eastern Spain
today. The new car features the same visibly 'stepped' nose section as seen in every new F1
car so far with the exc
eption of McLaren's MP4-27. However, the car's step-nose seems to be a hybrid of the dramatic
step seen on the Catheram, Ferrari, Sauber and the smoother steps seen on the Lotus' E20 and
Force India's VJM05.
Designer Adrian Newey, speaking at the car launch in Milton Keynes, described the latest
innovations and modifications.
"We've kept more or less the same chassis shape, but had to drop the nose just in front of the
front bulkhead which, in common with many other teams, has led us to a slightly ugly looking nose.
Speaking about the success secrets of Red Bull, he added: “The main reason for our achievements
is the team work. ”It’s quite simply a group of people here at the Red Bull worked as a unit.
That obviously taken some time to evolve but has grown rapidly.
The car appears outwardly similar to last year's all-conquering RB7, which won 12 of 2011's 19
races, but features a revised nose layout and a different exhaust to accommodate this season's
rule changes.
Vettel and Mark Webber continue their driving partnership into a fourth season. Ex-Toro Rosso
racer Sebastien Buemi is now RBR's reserve.
