Maruti Suzuki to launch
When the Swift DZire was first launched a little over four years ago, it was not the first sedan that
was sharing the platform of a sibling hatch, but I had expected it to be amongst the first to leverage
the under-four-metre size advantage to come up with a killer price-to-value package for buyers in the
entry sedan segment.
Let’s start with the looks. Yes, there isn’t a dead giveaway of the difference between the Dzire and
the Swift if you look at it head on, but step aside a little and you’ll notice the difference. It does
look a bit odd, with that brutally hacked rear-end, but then no self-respecting automobile enthusiast
was a fan of the older Dzire’s styling either. However, the rear definitely looks very contemporary
and distinguishable, although there’s nothing that’s going to set your pulse racing.
Engine options are said to include a 1.2-litre K Series petrol and a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel from
Fiat, engines that already see service in Maruti’s range.
The product of a Suzuki joint venture in India (which is by itself the largest automaker on the
subcontinent), the Swift Dzire is the new sedan version of the nimble little hatchback available
in overseas markets. And while the previous-generation version appeared to have added a trunk as
an appendage off the back of a Swift, the new version looks like it just lost the upper part of
the hatch for what looks like the smallest trunk this side of a newborn elephant.
(Cue the ballpark organ music.)
The dispatch of the Maruti DZire CS have already begun and its about time before the dealerships
flaunt these cars in their showrooms. As for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, we wouldn’t mind waiting
for another month or so as we already waited for the MPV for the past two years since it was
first showcased as a concept in the 2009 Auto Expo held at New Delhi.
